Easy Peezy

I had an idea of what I wanted to write about today. I had a few things written down and knew what I wanted to say and then all of a sudden… BAM- change of plans.

I met a lady at work this morning that was as sweet as pumpkin pie. We got to chit-chatting about our families and plans for the holidays (is Thanksgiving REALLY next week?! AHH). She mentioned she had been married to her husband for 52 years, and that he still surprises her every single day.
Whenever the opportunity presents itself, I always like to as the question, “what is the secret to _x_ years together?” The answers I’ve heard are normally the usual suspects.
“Never go to bed with an argument unsettled.”
“Meet each other in the middle."
…until today. This sweet little morsel of a woman told me this:
“Just marry the right person and you will never worry.”

Bada-bing. Bada-boom.  Short, sweet, and to the point. I love it. I feel like this is something that I have tried to express for a long time, and then here comes this adorable lady who sums it up in 10 words!
When I met my husband, it was instant magic. Those few minutes felt like light-years flying by as we got to know each other. As irritating as it sounds, when you know, you know. That right person will set your world on fire and counter balance every single thing you have going on. Love is effortless, easy, and leaves you with zero second guesses. It will wrap you up like your favorite blanket and never leave you needing anything else. And the only disagreement you MIGHT have is over who GETS to do the dishes and who GETS to cook dinner. Not that we know.

Sometimes we need to not muddy our thoughts and ideas of how things (especially relationships) should be.
So thank you wise woman for showing me that in your 52 long years of love, the secret to success is not a mystery equation that we need to study for like a pop-quiz.
 It’s easy.
Easy like Sunday mornin’.
(Even though that is a song about breaking up... I like the phrase ;) My blog – my rules)

You, Y'all, All Y'all

First of all, I would like to congratulate y'all on making it to Friday! Woohoo! You deserve a drink or three two. I am going to keep this post light and fun since my mind is already on weekend time.

This past week Rob and I were watching one of the shows we DVR’d, and one of the characters said, “Hey you guys…” We both kind of looked up at each other with a confused look on our faces. “You guys” is definitely not a phrase in our day-to-day vocabulary. This saying irritates me to no end. What if you are talking to all women, would you say, “hey you girls?" Or a mixed group, “hey you girls and guys?” No, because that just ain't right.

The Broaddus household is 100% a “y’all” saying family. After a conversation that lasted longer than you would think, we decided on the following:
1 person = You
2 people = Y’all
3+ people = All Y’all
No questions about it. Maybe this is just because we live south of the Mason-Dixon Line, but this is how it is and how it needs to be.

Ironically, today I was reading a blog that had a fun little “What American Accent Do you Have” quiz liked to it.
Here is the link if you would like to take it yourself: What American Accent Do You Have
And here are my results:

95% The Midland and 73% The South - I’ll take it.
I know, I know, all this “y’all” talk and I wasn’t 100% The South?! It’s cool though. I actually think it’s a pretty accurate description of my accent. If you have ever talked to me on the phone while I was at work, you probably agree that “You have a good voice to TV and radio,” is the truth.

Take the quiz for yourself. Let me know what your results are or if you agree with my “y’all” theory.

Have a good weekend y’all (I just couldn’t resist).

A few things you should know before we get this blog thing rollin'...

1. In a world of technology and smart phones, I love making lists and writing things down. Grocery lists, to-do lists, wish lists, reminders, restaurant ideas, recipes- I will write it all down on a sticky note for later. Believe me, I know I could save a few trees and just download an app that will organize my world, but no thank you, please. The moment I wholeheartedly trust that little hand held computer of a smart phone to store every detail of my life will also be the moment I accidently destroy the thing. Just my luck, right??

2. Since I have already described my undying love for lists, that will be the format of this entry. Kapeesh?

3. Fashion blogger I am not. DIY extraordinaire- I’m not one of those either. Wine connoisseur, professional chef, world traveler, party planner. You guessed it, not my strong suits. But I will dabble in each one from time to time. So bear with me and this little bloggy as we find our own little nook of the internet to call home.

4. PDA alert- I love being Mrs. Broaddus. I am a newly wed to the most amazing man ever. I could go into details on how much of a catch he is, but I don’t want any of you ladies to get any ideas. He’s mine. ALL mine. ;) (By the way, hi babe- congrats you are my one and only reader!!)
We have two pups that are both spoiled rotten. Let me introduce you to them now since they will be popping up throughout this blog from time to time. Please say hello to Scrappy and Paisley. For your own curiosity, Scrappy does not give kisses very often, but Ms Paisley makes up for it ten fold.

5. My husband and I both come from average sized families. But when you get married, you don’t just get your mate, you get their entire family as well. I lucked out- my in laws are rock stars. Between the two of us we have: 4 parents, 2 step parents, 3 grandparents still with us, 1 step grandmother, 3 sisters, a brother, a step brother, 2 brothers-in-law, a nephew, and 3 step-nephews. Is step-nephews the official title? Who knows. Just go with it, will ya? That is a whopping 21 people in our immediate families alone! We could be a sports team! Heck, with a few practices we could probably play as well as the Redskins are this season! I kid, I kid.

6. I love the Redskins and I know that my family and I could not take them on. I am aloud to joke like that because I am a true fan. :D And to all you Cowboys fans, I won’t judge you.

Alright yall, we'll just stop right here for today. Hopefully this little snippet of information will give you a little insight to me and my world.

BOOM. First blog post- done.
